February 17, 2006

The voice coil from the inside of a hard disk. In concert with some hefty permanent magnets, this is the thing that drives the read/write head to the right spot on the disk. (The term voice coil derives from its use in moving the cone of a loudspeaker.)

Details: Nikon 105mm 1:2.8 macro, 52.5mm extension tube, ~f/8, 1/125s, ISO 200, SB-800 flash.
