Black Center

Here's a square-on shot of yesterday's arctotis flower.
Following up on Jamie's comment from yesterday, and Turfdigger's from a week ago, here are the black, seed-like, fibre-optic-like, things in the middle. Presumably they're 'proto-seeds' — seeds-to-be.
Also, what are the little pairs of tiny leaves around the outside? I see that I need to carefully observe the life-cycle of these flowers.
Details: Nikon 105mm 1:2.8 macro, ~f/4, 1/200s, ISO 200.

These are the most incredible looking flowers - the black is wild. I've never noticed any US flowers with tiny leaves inside the head. This is very very interesting!

WowWowWow!!! The outer petals look like flame jets - this would look super as a large print. Well done!

Totally eye-popping! Wonderful compositionally and technically!
