Organic Chaos
August 31, 2005
The Magnolia flowers at the Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens are now more plentiful than they were a couple of weeks ago.
For me, the intriguing thing about these branches is how the underlying regular structure is modified by small random variations, producing a chaotic seeming whole. A small variation in gap between stems here, a slightly different angle there, and the whole thing adds up to a very organic structure.
For Photo Friday's Chaos.
Details: Nikon 18-70mm, 55mm, f/4.5, 1/160s, ISO 200, curves, vignetting.

They have these flowering trees in Hawaii. I think they're the same. Do the flowers smell heavenly? Beautiful post - nice crop of the trees and great DOF, capture all of the branches perfectly in focus.

Jamie: I think they do have a nice smell, but I suspect that it's only strong enough to notice in warm weather -- Hawaii would seem ideal. It was probably about 15C (59F) the day I took this shot.

Indeed, there is a lattice work of order found within the seeming chaos of lower branches - a great choice for PhotoFriday!
