Sunflower Seeds
April 25, 2005
Dried sunflower seeds, still on the flower. In retrospect, this probably needed a couple of stops more depth of field.
Details: Nikon 105mm 1:2.8 macro, f/2.8, 1/250s, ISO 400, curves.

I don't know that more stops are called for here - this is a great abstract and the translation of the various geometries at work here ring true. There's a wonderful contrast between the resident seeds on the left and the vacated compartments to the right and this is yet another image I've seen in the last few days that bears the presence of spiders, with the delicate web strands visible at the bottom. Trust your gut posting instincts:-)

Wow. I've never seen this before. The sunflower seeds look interesting.

Turfdigger: Thanks. When I turned the corner and saw this seedhead I pretty much just dropped everything and put my macro lens on. About the spiders, I agree -- quite often I pull a macro shot up on the computer and am surprised to see a spider, or web, that I didn't even spot when I was composing the shot.
Matt: This particular one had dried draped across the rails of a verandah, and looked a lot like the clock in the Dali painting.

Seeds so close. Even the empty flower looks well against the seeds.
