Dandelion Beetle
January 02, 2005
While playing with the 105mm macro, I came across this beetle on a dandelion.
I was originally going to go with the high-key slightly overexposed version at the bottom, but the contrasty version picks the beetle out a lot more. Now I can't decide, so I'm posting both. Which one do you prefer?

This is definitely one of the coolest macros I've seen. That beetle was certainly a nice find. Although I really like the color of the bottom photo's background more, the beetle seems to look better in the top photo, so I prefer the top one. Keep up the great work!

this is a great shot! The contrasty one works better for me but I do like the delicacy of the second shot. You should consider using a layer mask in PS to bring the contrasty beetle into the high key shot :)

I was going to say the exact same thing as Randall! I like the subject in the top one, but the background color in the bottom one. These are awesome though! The bottom one is growing on me - it's so gentle!

Indeed a lovely shot. I appreciate the detail that you can notice in the first image. I did want to comment, just on a note of clarification, that the insect you have found is a parasitic wasp, not a beetle. But whatever its identification, I am glad you recognize its beauty!
