Depth of Field Fence

December 02, 2004

Last night I watched a documentary in which artist David Hockney put forward evidence that the great masters of the 15th century, and later, used optics (both lenses and mirrors) to help them paint their highly detailed paintings. One of the pieces of evidence is different focal points in different parts of a painting — the artist had re-focused to get different parts of the painting in focus.

That set me in the mood to try something of my own that used the same techniques. In this case two images of a brush fence, with different focal points, merged during editing.

For your viewing (dis)pleasure, I've included two different versions.
